Stanly principals present school improvement plans to Board of Education

The principals from many of the Stanly County Schools met with members of the Board of Education Wednesday to discuss their individual plans for improving student instruction.
For each school at the meeting, one goal the principals all listed was improving scores for grade level proficiency tests, along with many schools seeking to reduce minor and major office referrals. Many of the schools also spoke about increased parental and community involvement.
Some of the stated goals from the schools included the following:
Aquadale – smaller class size in grades 4 and 5 (with an average of 21 per class), along with focusing on reading skills and fluency in K-2;
Central – attract, hire and retain highly qualified staff (to include long-term substitute positions), along with reducing office referrals by 10%;
East Albemarle – individualize instruction based on data collected from formative assessments and reduce office referrals by 10%;
Endy – exceed growth and partner with families and communities to support student learning and experiences;
Norwood – increase staff and student daily attendance by 25% while having 75% of K-2 students at or above mClass grade level. (mClass measures reading skills in K-5);
Stanfield – increase opportunities for parent and community engagement throughout the school year, along with meeting or exceeding growth;
Albemarle Middle – improved proficiency, and decrease office referrals related to negative and inappropriate social behaviors by 25%;
North Stanly Middle – achieve an 85% success rate in meeting identified goals for student growth and improvement in implementing district-wide assessments, classroom observations, teacher feedback and student input-based strategies yearly;
South Stanly Middle – individual student data notebooks, along with a 10% decrease in office referrals;
Albemarle High – increase composite end of course scores in Biology, English 2, Math 1 and 3, along with a graduation rate at or above 80% and dealing with a 33% vacancy rate in teaching positions.
