Individuals from nursing, education, law enforcement, business and more with slip on their dancing shoes next month.

Ten teams will compete in Stanly County Dancing With The Stars Sept. 9 at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center.

The event will once again benefit the Butterfly House Child Advocacy Center in Albemarle. It has raised nearly $1 million for the center since 2012.

The Butterfly House offers coordination of investigation and intervention services when dealing with suspected cases of child abuse. Advocates play a role in coordinating therapy, explaining parts of a case and scheduling medical assistance.

“This event is a fan favorite, and supports one of Stanly County’s most important resources, The Butterfly House Children’s Advocacy Center,” said Kim McGowen, annual giving officer for Stanly Health Foundation, a presenter of the show. “The careful and life-changing work performed by the BH staff allows their clients to heal and recover following often horrific events. Friends of the Butterfly House and Stanly Health Foundation are honored to bring this annual event to life and look forward to seeing folks come out to enjoy ‘Come Fly With Me,’ as we travel the world together through dance.”

After that, tickets will be held at the will call at the Agri-Civic Center box office. A live stream of the event is also possible.

Meet The Dancers

Team Pfeiffer consists of Crystal Gaddy and Paula Graham, both instructors in the occupational therapy program at Pfeiffer University.

Team Juneberry is Savanna Rankin and her husband, Kellen. Savanna is the human resources and administrative manager for Juneberry Ridge in Norwood. Kellen is the defensive coordinator for South Stanly High’s football team.

Team Tietgens/Morton includes Christy Tietgens and Joshua Morton III. Tietgens is a real estate agent. Morton works at the Locust branch of Uwharrie Bank.

Team Atrium includes Alex Escoto, director of nursing at Atrium Health Stanly, and Jennifer Rummage, a charge nurse on the med-surg/telemetry unit at Atrium Stanly.

Team Earley/Hatley, also known as team “Highly Koala-fied,” includes Kelly Earley, who works at Chad Johnson Orthodontics in Harrisburg, and Mike Hatley, who works in management at Westrock Coffee (formerly S&D Coffee) in Concord.

Team Jordan/Whitesell include Candice Jordan, wife of Lilly’s Bridge Marina owner Jay Jordan, and Mitchell Whitesell, a technical sales manager for a German machine parts manufacturer.

Team Drye/Medlin consists of Chad Drye, assistant police chief of Wingate Police Department, and Maddie Medlin, a photographer who has often been found in Uwharrie Players productions.

Team Dennis is Dr. Jarrod Dennis, superintendent of Stanly County Schools, and his wife, Susan, a preschool teacher at Friendship Central Child Development in Albemarle.

Team Huneycutt/Price is Rebecca W. Huneycutt, a certified nurse midwife, and Travis Price, a site superintendent for Wood Partners.

Team Lowry includes Tyler Lowry, a digital marketing and web manager, and his wife, Shayla, who owns and manages Flow Yoga Studio in Locust.
