An organization which helps veterans in Stanly County is under investigation by its governing state organization.

“VFW Post 2908 is currently under suspension,” Helen Nelson, state commander for the Department of North Carolina Veterans of Foreign Wars, confirmed to The Stanly News & Press by email Monday night.

The post was closed for 90 days by the department commander, according to a post last week on the Facebook page of the VFW Post 2908 Auxiliary.

“The Commander was relieved of command of the Post, and I cannot comment as to the cause since this is an active investigation. No other staff has resigned,” Nelson said.

Nelson said the Tuesday night bingo operated at the Post is still active, as are contract Post rentals. The Auxiliary added that there “will be no access to the canteen for adult beverages. The kitchen will be open for food and non-alcoholic beverages.”

The Auxiliary plans to meet at Loafers and Legends, 24 Falls Road, Badin, for its meetings.

“Once our investigation is complete, the Post and Canteen will resume normal operations,” Nelson said.
