Wreck outside Oakboro ends in fatality, two others hospitalized

A vehicle wreck Thanksgiving afternoon left one person dead, another airlifted and a third sent to the hospital.

According to N.C. Highway Patrol Sgt. Adam Bost, the driver of a Toyota passenger car traveling west on Griffin Green Boulevard and Buster Road, west of Oakboro, failed to yield for a stop sign. The incident was first reported at 1:57 p.m.

The Toyota collided with a Jeep Liberty traveling south on Buster, where the female driver was ejected from her vehicle. The driver, whose identity has not been released as of Thursday night, died.

The passenger of the Toyota was airlifted to CMC-Main in Charlotte, while the driver was taken by ambulance to CMC-Northeast in Concord. Their identities have also not been released.

Both drivers of the vehicles were not wearing their seat belts, Bost said. After impact both vehicles struck trees nearby.

Bost said alcohol was a factor for the Toyota driver, and added officers have been in contact with the district attorney’s office regarding charges against the driver.
