The Stanly County Chamber of Commerce is searching for a new leader.

Sandy Selvy-Mullis, who was named interim president and CEO in September 2019 and later became full-time in the position, resigned this week. Her last day will be Dec. 21.

Selvy-Mullis accepted a position as director of marketing with Tillery Compassionate Care, formerly Hospice of Stanly County.

“I think it’s been a good run. I have had fantastic board members from the minute I started until now. They’ve supported me and allowed me to work my way to help the businesses in Stanly County as much as we can. They’ve let me be creative with that,” Selvy-Mullis said.

She thanked the “amazing” volunteers with whom she has worked, adding, “the Chamber can’t survive without volunteers.”

Having been a publisher of the Stanly News & Press gave her a different perspective on promotion.

“You have to make sure people know what’s going on, and that you and the community are working, that good things are coming in. I’m sure my background helped tremendously with that,” she said.

She said she enjoyed working with Chamber members, having made “so many new connections” in her time in the position.

“We are grateful for the many contributions Sandy has made to the Stanly County Chamber of Commerce, to our members, and to our community at large,” Chamber Board Chairman Wil Huneycutt said. “Her positive spirit and eagerness to serve has been refreshing and she has served our members and our community well. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors.”

George Crooker, director of the Stanly County Family YMCA and who was chairman of the Chamber board when Selvy-Mullis was hired, said she has “done a great job for the Chamber. She’s turned it around.”

Huneycutt said the board will begin a search immediately to fill the position.

“We are excited about the progress we have made under Sandy’s leadership, and look forward to continuing to serve our members for many years to come,” Huneycutt said. “Information on the process and how to apply if interested will be released soon.”
