Richfield Town Commission received a report last week from the town’s park and recreation committee about updates to the town’s parks.
P&R Committee chairman Dave Eddy said he wanted to “share the points of our vision” of the committee to the commission and members of the public in attendance.
Renovations on the park’s picnic shelters continue. The chairman also said food truck events are receiving “a lot of good comments.”
Eddy thanked the town for getting started on two projects, including paving entrance roads on both sides of Richfield Park. The town has also initiated a project to repave a 60-by-80-foot basketball court on what Eddy described as “the Terry Almond side of the park.”
Richfield is also taking down a storage building on the CP Misenheimer ballpark side of the park, Eddy said.
Other projects planned for the park include adding a dozen Duke Power streetlights to the parkway road system across the park.
Eddy said posts are in the ground at the ballpark and a chain will “create proper ingress and egress for emergency transport.” He said no parking signs had also been added to keep an emergency lane open.
“Medical folks have gotten with us and said they think it’s pretty well handled,” Eddy said.
The committee is still looking to create a 20-year plan for a sport complex for the park for baseball and soccer.
